A small village with a big history
Our Story
Reevesville began as 'Wellington' before being renamed after the Reeves brothers' local sawmill. Nestled in Johnson County, Illinois, the village grew rapidly when the railroad arrived, transforming it into a vital stop along the line between Carbondale and Paducah.
At its peak, Reevesville boasted three restaurants, two grocery stores, and two churches — a thriving hub of commerce and community life. Passengers and rail crews alike would stop here to take on coal and water, and to enjoy a meal at one of the local eateries.
The 'Reevesville Regulars' softball team brought the community together on weekends, drawing crowds for games that became a beloved local tradition. Though much has changed over the decades, the spirit of Reevesville endures in the memories of those who called it home.
